Save The Cross Keys
The Cross Keys is an historic Chelsea landmark. It’s been around since 1708, always under the same name.
For three hundred years, it has been a place where local residents meet, socialise, laugh and chat. Locals who have enjoyed a drink over the centuries include Dylan Thomas and Dante Gabriel Rosette, J.M.W. Turner, James Whistler, William Holman Hunt and John Singer Sargent as well as George Meredith, Thomas Carlyle, and Agatha Christie.
But The Cross Keys is much more than just a place where local people get together. Christenings, birthday parties, wedding receptions and funeral wakes are traditionally held here. Local community groups often meet upstairs and church congregations always meet here on Sundays.
The fact is, it’s a place where the community comes together.
Which is why it would be a huge blow to the historic atmosphere and community spirit of Old Chelsea if we were to lose The Cross Keys Because it’s much more than just a local meeting place. It contributes to the identity of our area.
So lets NOT lose it.
We’ve lost enough already: Of the 14 pubs that once existed in the Cheyne Conservation Area only four remain and two of these are under threat. Enough’s enough.

Hi I think you’ll find all the info you need about what we did to #savethevic on our website plus a link the planning appeal decision. We have heard today that the developers McCarthy & Stone are not going to appeal against the decision and that they are no longer interested in purchasing. Next steps to approach the owners Spirit Group to discuss purchase.
It can happen but it does take a lot of hard work & the involvement of the community.

I have lived in Chelsea for 50 years and gradually all the community centres, pubs,gardens, hostels churches schools have been developed and taken over by greedy developers please leave some landmarks where the community can meet and get together otherwise we will live in a dead community with nowhere for people to gather!

If its been a pub for 300 years it should remain one for the next 100 or so.

Years ago, I lived next door in Kings Mansions. The Cross Keys was a superb local pub with a loyal band of regulars. When clamping was introduced, we would all go outside and jeer at the clampers, shouting things like “Do your children know what you do for a living?” On one occasion, a clamp was successfully removed and hidden in the boot of the car to a rousing cheer. Then the police turned up and arrested a couple of the chaps on suspicion of criminal damage amid a great deal of booing. This is the stuff of community spirit. Save The Cross Keys.
